olanzapine + risperidone

Olanzapine + risperidone is a combination of two atypical antipsychotic drugs, each with distinct but overlapping mechanisms of action. Both agents are primarily used in the treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Olanzapine acts as an antagonist at multiple neuronal receptors, including dopamine D1–D4 receptors and serotonin 5HT2A, 5HT2C, 5HT3, and 5HT6 receptors, as well as alpha-1 adrenergic, histamine H1, and muscarinic receptors. Risperidone also antagonizes dopamine D2 and serotonin 5HT2A receptors among others. The combination may provide synergistic effects in reducing symptoms of schizophrenia and improving cognitive function in some patients who are resistant to monotherapy[2][3]. However, combining these drugs can increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness, blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation, irregular heartbeat, confusion, and memory problems[1]. This combination is not a standard fixed-dose product but may be used off-label or in clinical practice for treatment-resistant cases.
