Overview

Olmesartan medoxomil + amlodipine is a fixed-dose combination of two antihypertensive agents used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and reduced cardiac workload. Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle and adrenal gland tissue, leading to vasodilation and decreased aldosterone secretion. The combination provides additive blood pressure-lowering effects compared to either agent alone. It is indicated for use alone or with other antihypertensive agents for hypertension management[1][3][4][5].
