Overview

Olmesartan medoxomil + azelnidipine is a fixed-dose combination drug used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It combines two antihypertensive agents with complementary mechanisms. Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that lowers blood pressure by blocking the action of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation. Azelnidipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB) that inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle cells, resulting in relaxation and widening of blood vessels. The combination provides greater reductions in both office and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure compared to monotherapy with either agent, and has demonstrated good tolerability in clinical studies. This dual approach targets multiple pathways involved in hypertension management[1][2][3][6].
