Overview

Olmesartan medoxomil + chlorthalidone is a fixed-dose combination medication used primarily for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults who require more than one drug to achieve adequate blood pressure control. It combines two active ingredients with complementary mechanisms of action. Olmesartan medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic that increases urinary excretion of sodium and water, reducing plasma volume and also relaxing vascular smooth muscle over time, further lowering blood pressure. This combination is particularly beneficial for patients whose hypertension cannot be controlled with monotherapy[1][3][5].
