Overview
olmesartan medoxomil + levoamlodipine is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) antihypertensive therapy. It consists of olmesartan medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and levoamlodipine, the chirally pure (S)-enantiomer of the calcium channel blocker amlodipine. Olmesartan medoxomil acts as a selective AT1 receptor antagonist, blocking the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II. Levoamlodipine inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation. The combination provides synergistic blood pressure lowering by addressing two different physiological pathways. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials by Jiangxi Shimei Pharmaceutical for the treatment of mild-to-moderate primary hypertension in patients who are not adequately controlled by monotherapy.
