Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Omega-3 fatty acids + nigella sativa oil is a combination nutraceutical supplement investigated for its potential to modulate the immune response and improve clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19. The combination consists of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) and Nigella sativa oil, which is standardized to its primary bioactive component, thymoquinone. Thymoquinone is known for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immunomodulatory properties, including the ability to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, and IL-12, while enhancing levels of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and immunoglobulins. This combination was evaluated in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial sponsored by Beni-Suef University as an adjunctive therapy to boost the human immune system against SARS-CoV-2 infection.
