Omega-3 fatty acids + oxybutynin is a combination therapy investigated by TriHealth for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) in women. This regimen combines the standard anticholinergic agent oxybutynin with omega-3 fatty acid supplementation. The therapeutic rationale is based on the anti-inflammatory properties of omega-3 fatty acids, which may mitigate bladder wall inflammation and oxidative stress, potentially acting synergistically with the muscarinic receptor antagonism of oxybutynin to improve symptoms of urinary urgency, frequency, and urge incontinence. A Phase 4 clinical trial (NCT02441309) was conducted to evaluate whether the addition of 1000 mg of omega-3 fatty acids to 5 mg of oxybutynin provides superior symptom relief compared to oxybutynin alone.
