Overview
Omeprazole + succinic acid (VECAM) is an investigational fixed-dose combination designed to enhance intragastric pH control for acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), irreversibly inhibits the H+/K+ ATPase proton pump in gastric parietal cells to suppress acid secretion, while succinic acid stimulates gastric acid secretion to activate proton pumps, allowing omeprazole to bind more effectively regardless of meal timing. In a randomized crossover study of 36 healthy volunteers, VECAM demonstrated superior nocturnal pH maintenance (>4) compared to omeprazole alone, potentially improving efficacy in conditions like GERD and peptic ulcers.[1][2][3]
