Overview
A combination of ondansetron, a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, and dexmedetomidine, a highly selective α-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. This combination is used primarily for the prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Ondansetron works by blocking serotonin receptors in the vomiting center, while dexmedetomidine provides sedative, anxiolytic, and analgesic effects. Studies have shown this combination to be effective in reducing PONV in various surgical settings, though there are concerns about potential QT interval prolongation when used together.
