Drug intelligence / Profile preview
onopordum acanthium + hyoscyamus niger is an anthroposophic medicinal combination developed by Weleda AG for the treatment of functional cardiovascular disorders. The formulation combines extracts from Onopordum acanthium (Cotton thistle) and Hyoscyamus niger (Henbane). In the anthroposophic medical tradition, Onopordum acanthium is utilized to support the rhythmic system and stabilize cardiac function, particularly in cases of arrhythmia or heart failure. Hyoscyamus niger provides a sedative effect on the autonomic nervous system due to its content of tropane alkaloids, such as hyoscyamine and scopolamine, which act as muscarinic receptor antagonists. This dual action is intended to harmonize heart rhythm and alleviate symptoms associated with nervous heart complaints, such as palpitations and anxiety-induced tachycardia.
