Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The oral COVID-19 vaccine (triple antigen) is a virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine candidate developed by Oravax Medical, a joint venture between Oramed Pharmaceuticals and Premas Biotech. Unlike most COVID-19 vaccines that target only the Spike (S) protein, this candidate targets three SARS-CoV-2 surface proteins: the Spike, Membrane (M), and Envelope (E) proteins. This triple-antigen approach is intended to provide broader protection and increase resilience against viral mutations by targeting regions described as less susceptible to mutation. The vaccine utilizes Oramed's Protein Oral Delivery (POD) technology, which protects the protein cargo from degradation in the gastrointestinal tract and facilitates absorption, and Premas's D-Crypt platform for VLP production. It is designed for oral administration via capsule, potentially improving accessibility and ease of distribution compared to injectable vaccines.
