Overview
Oral GnRH antagonist (Livzon) is a small molecule gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist currently in Phase 1 clinical development by Livzon Pharmaceutical Group. It is being developed as an oral treatment for hormone-dependent gynecological conditions, including endometriosis and uterine fibroids. The drug works by competitively binding to GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, thereby blocking the action of endogenous GnRH and suppressing the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This suppression leads to a rapid and reversible reduction in ovarian steroid production (estrogen and progesterone), which is effective in reducing the pain and heavy bleeding associated with endometriosis and uterine fibroids.
