Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prolyte ORS is an oral rehydration salt formulation marketed by Cipla Health, designed to restore electrolytes and fluids lost due to dehydration. Based on the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended low-osmolarity formula, it contains a precise balance of sodium chloride, potassium chloride, trisodium citrate, and dextrose. The therapeutic effect is mediated by the sodium-glucose cotransport mechanism in the small intestine, where the presence of glucose enhances the absorption of sodium and, consequently, water. It is primarily indicated for the management of dehydration associated with acute diarrhea, vomiting, and heat exhaustion.
