Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Orotomide (inhaled formulation) is a preclinical-stage small molecule antifungal agent being developed by F2G Therapeutics. It belongs to the orotomide class, which represents a novel class of antifungals that target the fungal enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH). By selectively inhibiting fungal DHODH, the drug disrupts the de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis pathway, which is essential for fungal DNA and RNA synthesis and cell growth. This inhaled formulation is designed for direct delivery to the respiratory tract, aiming to treat or prevent pulmonary fungal infections such as invasive aspergillosis while minimizing systemic exposure and potential side effects.
