Overview

Orsiro is an ultra-thin strut (60 μm) sirolimus-eluting coronary stent system developed by Biotronik. It features a hybrid design that includes a cobalt-chromium stent platform, a passive proBIO silicon carbide coating designed to reduce the release of metal ions, and an active BIOsolveP bioabsorbable polymer coating. This active coating releases sirolimus, a macrocyclic lactone that inhibits the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), thereby suppressing neointimal hyperplasia and preventing restenosis. The polymer matrix (PLLA) resorbs over 12 to 24 months, leaving only the passive-coated stent in the vessel. Orsiro is indicated for the treatment of coronary artery disease and has demonstrated high rates of safety and efficacy in large-scale clinical trials, including the BIOFLOW and ISAR-DES series.
