Overview

This combination pairs two antiviral medications with different mechanisms of action: oseltamivir (a neuraminidase inhibitor) and baloxavir marboxil (a cap-dependent endonuclease inhibitor). ## Mechanism and Effectiveness The combination works through complementary mechanisms. Oseltamivir inhibits the viral neuraminidase enzyme, preventing the release of new viral particles from infected cells. Baloxavir marboxil inhibits the cap-dependent endonuclease activity of the influenza virus, blocking viral mRNA synthesis and replication[1][4]. Studies have shown strong synergistic effects when these drugs are combined. Research indicates that baloxavir combined with oseltamivir demonstrates significant synergy against multiple influenza virus strains, including those with reduced susceptibility to either drug alone[1][4].
