oseltamivir + hydroxychloroquine is a combination therapy regimen that was employed as the standard of care control arm in a Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT04349241) conducted by Ain Shams University for patients with mild to moderate COVID-19. The regimen consisted of oseltamivir (75 mg twice daily for 5-10 days) and hydroxychloroquine (a loading dose of 400 mg twice daily on the first day, followed by 200 mg twice daily for 5-10 days). Oseltamivir is a neuraminidase inhibitor primarily used for influenza, while hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial and immunomodulator. This combination reflected the Egyptian national treatment protocol during the early stages of the pandemic. However, the study results comparing this regimen to favipiravir were retracted in 2021 due to concerns regarding data integrity.
