OSU-2131 is a peptide-based vaccine candidate developed by the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center for the prevention of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection and its associated complications, such as EBV-related cancers and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD). The vaccine consists of a synthetic peptide (RAKFKQLL) derived from the EBV immediate-early protein BZLF1, which is complexed with recombinant human heat shock cognate protein 70 (rh-Hsc70). OSU-2131 is administered subcutaneously in combination with the saponin-based adjuvant QS-21 (Stimulon) to enhance the induction of EBV-specific T-cell immune responses. It is primarily being evaluated in healthy volunteers and patients with end-stage renal disease awaiting solid organ transplantation to determine safety and optimal immunologic dosing.
