Overview

Obispax is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product developed by Malesci Pharmacobiological Institute (a subsidiary of the Menarini Group). It contains otilonium bromide, a musculotropic antispasmodic, and diazepam, a benzodiazepine. The drug is primarily indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other functional gastrointestinal disorders characterized by smooth muscle spasms and a significant psychosomatic or anxiety-related component. Otilonium bromide exerts its effect locally on the gastrointestinal tract by blocking L-type calcium channels and muscarinic receptors, thereby reducing hypermotility and spasms. Diazepam provides a complementary anxiolytic and muscle-relaxant effect by modulating GABA-A receptors in the central nervous system, addressing the emotional tension often associated with chronic digestive conditions.
