Overview

Ovalbumin + PLGA refers to a nanoparticle-based vaccine delivery system where the model antigen ovalbumin (OVA) is encapsulated within poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles. In the context of the provided research, these nanoparticles are dual-loaded with alpha-galactosylceramide (alpha-GalCer), a glycolipid agonist that binds to CD1d to activate invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells. This delivery platform is designed to enhance anti-tumor immunity by promoting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IFN-gamma and facilitating the presentation of tumor-associated antigens. Preclinical studies in melanoma models have demonstrated that this formulation can decrease tumor growth and increase survival, particularly when used in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors like anti-PD-1 and anti-CTLA-4.
