Overview
FOLFOX4 + XELOX refers to a group of oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy regimens used primarily in the adjuvant treatment of stage II and III colon cancer. FOLFOX4 is a combination of intravenous oxaliplatin, leucovorin (folinic acid), and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). XELOX, also known as CAPOX, consists of intravenous oxaliplatin combined with oral capecitabine, which acts as a prodrug of 5-FU. These regimens were evaluated in the Italian TOSCA trial to determine if a shorter 3-month duration of therapy was non-inferior to the standard 6-month duration, aiming to reduce cumulative neurotoxicity associated with oxaliplatin while maintaining efficacy in radically resected colon cancer.
