This drug is a combination of two distinct pharmaceutical agents used for different therapeutic purposes. Oxaliplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy agent primarily used to treat colorectal cancer by causing DNA crosslinking that leads to cancer cell death. Oxycodone is a semisynthetic opioid analgesic that acts on the central nervous system by agonizing mu-, kappa-, and delta-opioid receptors to relieve moderate to severe pain. The combination would theoretically be used in clinical settings where both chemotherapy (oxaliplatin) and opioid analgesia (oxycodone) are required, such as managing pain in cancer patients undergoing treatment with oxaliplatin. Oxaliplatin works by forming DNA adducts that inhibit DNA replication and transcription, leading to apoptosis of tumor cells. Oxycodone provides pain relief by binding opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord, altering the perception of pain.
