Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Comtusi is a fixed-dose combination medication developed by Combiphar, primarily used to relieve coughs associated with allergic reactions and coughs with phlegm (productive coughs). It contains two active ingredients: oxomemazine, a first-generation phenothiazine antihistamine, and guaifenesin, an expectorant. Oxomemazine acts as an antagonist at histamine H1 receptors to alleviate allergy-induced cough and irritation, while also exhibiting mild anticholinergic and sedative properties. Guaifenesin works by increasing the volume and reducing the viscosity of respiratory tract secretions, facilitating the clearance of mucus from the airways. Comtusi is available in various formulations, including syrup (with a strawberry-flavored option for children) and a higher-strength capsule formulation (Comtusi Forte).
