Overview

Oxomemazine + guaifenesin + potassium iodate is an oral fixed-dose cough syrup evaluated for **acute cough**. Oxomemazine is a first-generation phenothiazine antihistamine with sedating and antimuscarinic activity, principally antagonizing histamine H1 receptors; guaifenesin is an expectorant intended to facilitate clearance of respiratory secretions; and potassium iodate was described in the registered study as an expectorant component. The combination was investigated by EMS in the completed randomized, open-label phase 3 study NCT01257243, which compared the combination with guaifenesin monotherapy over seven days in adults with acute cough.
