oxycodone + bupivacaine liposome is a multimodal analgesic regimen being evaluated for the management of postoperative pain in patients undergoing thoracic surgery for lung cancer, such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). This regimen integrates the systemic analgesic properties of oxycodone, a semi-synthetic opioid agonist that targets mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system, with the localized, long-acting anesthetic effects of bupivacaine liposome. Bupivacaine liposome utilizes a multivesicular liposomal delivery system to provide sustained release of bupivacaine, which blocks voltage-gated sodium channels to inhibit nerve conduction at the surgical site. Investigated by the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangnan University, this combination aims to optimize pain relief, facilitate earlier mobilization, and reduce the requirement for rescue opioid medications following major pulmonary resection.
