Oxycodone + dexmedetomidine is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily for postoperative pain management, especially in patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) settings. Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opioid agonist that acts mainly on the μ-opioid receptor to provide analgesia. Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective α2-adrenoceptor agonist with sedative, anxiolytic, and modest analgesic properties. When combined, dexmedetomidine enhances the analgesic effect of oxycodone while reducing its required dose and associated side effects such as nausea and vomiting.
