Overview

Oxycodone and fentanyl are both potent opioid analgesics used for pain management. When combined, they represent a powerful pain management approach, though this specific combination is not typically prescribed as a single formulation. **Oxycodone** is a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic that acts on mu-, kappa-, and delta-type opioid receptors. It is approximately 1.5 times more potent than oral morphine and is used for moderate to severe pain. It is available in immediate-release and extended-release formulations. **Fentanyl** is a synthetic opioid that is approximately 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin. It is FDA-approved for use as an analgesic and anesthetic, primarily used for severe pain management, including cancer pain and post-surgical pain. Both medications can cause respiratory depression, sedation, euphoria, and have high potential for dependence and abuse.
