Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oxygen + xenon is a gaseous mixture under development for organ preservation, specifically utilizing high-pressure gaseous perfusion (HIPPER) technology. Developed by Limenbio and InPres, this non-fluidic preservation method completely eliminates liquid preservation media, relying instead on a pressurized gaseous mixture of oxygen and xenon (typically in a 9:1 ratio) to perfuse organs both externally and internally. The mixture leverages the metabolic support of oxygen and the cytoprotective, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory properties of xenon (which acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist and activates protective pathways like PKC-epsilon) to prevent ischemia-reperfusion injury and extend the viability window of donor organs, such as hearts and lungs, during transport.
