Oxymatrine + diammonium glycyrrhizinate is a synergistic combination of two botanical-derived small molecules: oxymatrine, a quinolizidine alkaloid extracted from the root of *Sophora flavescens*, and diammonium glycyrrhizinate, a salt of glycyrrhizic acid derived from licorice root (*Glycyrrhiza glabra*). This combination is being developed by the Ningxia Medical University General Hospital for the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune skin conditions, including dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. Both compounds possess potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. Specifically, the combination inhibits the Nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway and modulates the Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway, reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, it targets 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11β-HSD2), which may enhance local glucocorticoid effects. Pre-clinical research indicates that this combination provides superior anti-inflammatory benefits with fewer adverse effects compared to either drug administered alone, particularly in models of allergic contact dermatitis.
