Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Terracortril is a combination pharmaceutical product containing the broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic oxytetracycline and the mild corticosteroid hydrocortisone. Oxytetracycline exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Hydrocortisone acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist to reduce inflammation, edema, and pruritus. This combination is primarily indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory skin or mucosal conditions where a secondary bacterial infection is present or likely. In clinical research, it has been evaluated as a soaking agent for nasal packing following functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps to improve healing and reduce postoperative inflammation.
