Control 1-Aydin Adnan Menderes University-oral mucosal disorder refers to an experimental oral care regimen consisting of a combination of ozonated water and hypochlorous acid solution. This combination is being evaluated in a Phase 4 clinical trial as a therapeutic intervention to maintain and restore the integrity of the oral mucosa in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation. Ozonated water provides potent oxidative antimicrobial activity and has been shown to stimulate local blood flow and tissue regeneration. Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a naturally occurring oxidant produced by neutrophils that exhibits rapid, broad-spectrum bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal properties without significant toxicity to human tissues. The study aims to determine if this oxidative combination is a safe and effective alternative to the standard-of-care antiseptic, chlorhexidine gluconate, in preventing oral mucosal breakdown and associated infections such as ventilator-associated pneumonia.
