Overview

p-tert-butylphenol-formaldehyde resin (low molecular weight) is a synthetic thermosetting polymer formed by the condensation of 4-tert-butylphenol and formaldehyde. It is primarily used as an adhesive in various commercial products and industrial applications due to its strong bonding properties, heat resistance, chemical stability, and water resistance[3][8]. Medically, it is recognized as a standardized chemical allergen and dermatological sensitizer; exposure can cause allergic contact dermatitis in susceptible individuals. Its mechanism of action as an allergen involves increased histamine release and cell-mediated immunity responses when used in clinical patch testing for allergy diagnosis[3][4][6]. The compound has been approved for use in diagnostic patch tests such as the T.R.U.E. Test.
