Drug intelligence / Profile preview
P023 + P001 + P004 is an experimental triple-bacteriophage cocktail developed by West China Hospital of Sichuan University. It is designed to target and lyse sequence type 23 (ST23) capsular type KL1 hypervirulent carbapenem-resistant *Klebsiella pneumoniae* (hvCRKP), an emerging pathogen with high virulence and resistance to last-line carbapenem antibiotics. The cocktail consists of three distinct lytic bacteriophages: P023 (phi1_164023, a *Studiervirinae Przondovirus*), P001 (phi1_205001, a *Tevenvirinae Jiaodavirus*), and P004 (phi1_205004, a *Straboviridae Slopekvirus*). These phages were isolated sequentially from hospital wastewater and sewage using iterative co-culture to overcome phage resistance. In preclinical evaluations, the triple-phage cocktail demonstrated synergistic lytic activity, suppressing host bacterial growth for at least 10 hours in vitro, suggesting potential therapeutic utility as an alternative or adjunct treatment for severe hvCRKP infections.
