p1-(5'-adenosyl)p5-(5'-thymidyl)pentaphosphate is a synthetic dinucleotide analog in which adenosine and thymidine are connected via a pentaphosphate bridge through their 5' positions. It is an experimental small molecule designed as a bisubstrate inhibitor of thymidylate kinase (TMPK), an enzyme involved in nucleotide metabolism. Structural studies have shown that it binds to the active site of TMPK and can serve as a tool compound for probing enzyme mechanism or for structure-based drug design targeting TMPK—an essential enzyme in DNA synthesis pathways of bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis[7]. The compound has not been approved for clinical use and is primarily used in biochemical research[2][7].
