Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Paclitaxel is a taxane-based microtubule stabilizer that inhibits cell proliferation by interfering with mitotic spindle assembly. In the context of the clinical trial conducted by Shaare Zedek Medical Center, paclitaxel is delivered locally to the vessel wall via the Legflow drug-coated balloon (DCB), manufactured by Cardionovum. This intervention is specifically targeted at treating recurrent cephalic arch stenosis in hemodialysis patients with brachiocephalic fistulas. By delivering paclitaxel directly to the site of the stenosis, the treatment aims to reduce neointimal hyperplasia and improve the primary patency of the dialysis access compared to conventional balloon angioplasty.
