Overview

Paclitaxel + carboplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen used to treat various cancers, including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, non-small cell lung cancer, and others. Paclitaxel is an anti-microtubule inhibitor derived from the bark of Pacific Yew trees; it disrupts microtubule function and arrests cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, preventing cancer cell division. Carboplatin is an alkylating agent that causes DNA crosslinking and damage, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. The combination works synergistically—paclitaxel-induced cell cycle arrest enhances the formation of carboplatin-DNA adducts by inhibiting DNA repair mechanisms[5][6][8]. Both drugs are administered intravenously in cycles.
