Overview

A combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of paclitaxel and carboplatin, specifically evaluated by the Korea Cancer Center Hospital in a Phase II clinical trial (NCT00565851). This regimen utilizes a hybrid administration approach, combining standard intravenous (IV) delivery of both agents with an additional intraperitoneal (IP) dose of paclitaxel. It is intended as an adjuvant treatment for patients with optimally debulked advanced epithelial ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal carcinoma, and fallopian tube cancer. Paclitaxel functions as a microtubule stabilizer by binding to tubulin, which inhibits the disassembly of microtubules and arrests the cell cycle in the G2/M phase. Carboplatin is a platinum-based antineoplastic agent that forms covalent DNA adducts, leading to intra-strand and inter-strand cross-links that inhibit DNA replication and transcription, ultimately triggering apoptosis. The intraperitoneal component is designed to enhance local drug concentration within the peritoneal cavity to eliminate residual microscopic disease.
