Overview

This investigational chemotherapeutic combination regimen, developed by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, is being evaluated for the neoadjuvant treatment of non-metastatic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The regimen consists of standard neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy using paclitaxel and carboplatin, supplemented with daily subcutaneous enoxaparin. Paclitaxel is a taxane that acts as a microtubule-stabilizing agent, interfering with the G2/M phase of the cell cycle to inhibit mitosis. Carboplatin is a platinum-based antineoplastic agent that induces DNA cross-linking, thereby inhibiting DNA synthesis and cell replication. Enoxaparin, a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), is added to the regimen to investigate whether its anticoagulant and potential anti-tumor properties can improve clinical and pathological response rates in patients undergoing concurrent radiotherapy.
