This is a multi-agent chemotherapy regimen combining four agents: - **Paclitaxel** (PTX): a microtubule-stabilizing agent that inhibits cell division by promoting tubulin polymerization and preventing depolymerization. - **Cisplatin** (CDDP): a platinum-based compound that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. - **5-Fluorouracil** (5-FU): an antimetabolite that inhibits thymidylate synthase, disrupting DNA synthesis and function. - **Folic acid** (FA; often used as folinic acid/leucovorin in regimens): enhances the binding of 5-FU to thymidylate synthase, increasing its cytotoxicity. This combination is designed for synergistic antitumor activity. It has been studied for use in various solid tumors including metastatic breast cancer and other cancers overexpressing folate receptors. Folic acid may also be used as a targeting ligand or modulator to enhance drug delivery or efficacy[1][2][4][7].
