Overview

This combination chemo-radiotherapy regimen was evaluated by the Fox Chase Cancer Center in a Phase II clinical trial (NCT00021333). The protocol was specifically designed for patients with locally recurrent head and neck cancer or lung cancer who had previously undergone radiation therapy. The treatment involves the concurrent administration of paclitaxel, a microtubule-stabilizing taxane, and cisplatin, a platinum-based DNA-damaging agent, alongside split-course hyperfractionated radiation therapy. Following the chemo-radiation phase, filgrastim (a recombinant granulocyte colony-stimulating factor) is administered to manage potential neutropenia and support the recovery of white blood cell counts. The regimen aims to enhance radiosensitivity and improve local control in heavily pre-treated patients with recurrent disease.
