paclitaxel + gemcitabine + cisplatin

paclitaxel + gemcitabine + cisplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen investigated for the treatment of metastatic or locally unresectable urothelial carcinoma. The regimen adds paclitaxel, a taxane that disrupts microtubule function and inhibits cell division, to the standard doublet of gemcitabine (a nucleoside analog) and cisplatin (a platinum-based DNA cross-linking agent). This triplet combination was evaluated in a Phase II clinical trial sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, to determine if the addition of a third agent could improve efficacy outcomes in patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the urothelium who had not previously received systemic chemotherapy.
