Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) + cannabinoids is a combination therapeutic candidate being developed by APIRx Pharma Sciences. The formulation utilizes a proprietary microencapsulation delivery technology to combine PEA, an endogenous fatty acid amide, with cannabinoids for the treatment of pain and inflammatory conditions. PEA acts as an agonist of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha), which modulates the expression of genes involved in pain and inflammation. Furthermore, PEA is known to exert an "entourage effect" by enhancing the activity of endocannabinoids through the inhibition of their degradation. By combining PEA with exogenous cannabinoids, the therapy aims to achieve synergistic efficacy through the dual modulation of the endocannabinoid system and PPAR-alpha signaling pathways.
