Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is an investigational combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) extracts derived from the roots of *Panax notoginseng* (Sanqi) and *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen). It is being developed and evaluated by The First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University specifically for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). *Salvia miltiorrhiza* contributes bioactive compounds such as salvianolic acids and tanshinones, which are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic properties. *Panax notoginseng* provides notoginsenosides, which improve microcirculation and modulate lipid metabolism. Together, the combination is hypothesized to exert synergistic effects by activating the AMPK pathway, reducing hepatic oxidative stress, and inhibiting the activation of hepatic stellate cells, thereby reducing intrahepatic fat content and preventing the progression of liver fibrosis.
