Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rigzim is an approved fixed-dose combination of pancreatin (170 mg) and simethicone (80 mg) developed and marketed by SPEY. Formulated as enteric-coated tablets, it is indicated for the relief of gastrointestinal symptoms including abdominal distension, bloating, flatulence, and meteorism, as well as for pancreatic exocrine insufficiency. Pancreatin provides essential digestive enzymes (lipase, amylase, and protease) to assist in the breakdown of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in the small intestine. Simethicone acts as a physical surfactant that reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, causing them to coalesce and be easily eliminated. Rigzim is also utilized to prepare patients for abdominal radiological examinations by clearing gas interference.
