Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pertzye is a pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) consisting of enteric-coated, bicarbonate-buffered microspheres of porcine-derived pancrelipase. The product contains a combination of digestive enzymes—lipase, protease, and amylase—derived from porcine pancreatic tissue. A unique feature of this formulation is the inclusion of bicarbonate, which acts as a buffer to neutralize gastric acid and maintain an optimal alkaline pH in the duodenum, thereby enhancing the activity and absorption of the enzymes. Pertzye is indicated for the treatment of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) due to cystic fibrosis or other conditions. It was developed by Digestive Care Inc. and received FDA approval in 2012.
