Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pancrelipase amylase + pancrelipase lipase + pancrelipase protease is an **oral porcine-derived pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy** containing a standardized mixture of digestive enzymes that hydrolyze carbohydrates, triglycerides, and proteins within the gastrointestinal lumen. It is used primarily for **exocrine pancreatic insufficiency** associated with conditions such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatectomy, pancreatic cancer, and other causes of pancreatic maldigestion. The therapeutic effect is local rather than systemic: amylase digests starches, lipase hydrolyzes fats into absorbable fatty acids and monoglycerides, and proteases digest proteins into peptides and amino acids, thereby improving nutrient absorption, reducing steatorrhea, and supporting weight maintenance and nutritional status. Commercial products differ in formulation, enzyme strength, and dosage form, with delayed-release capsules designed to protect enzymes from gastric acid and immediate-release tablet formulations sometimes used with acid suppression.
