Overview

Pandemic Influenza alphavaccine (H1B) is an investigational vaccine developed by AlphaVax using its proprietary viral replicon particle (VRP) technology. The platform utilizes an alphavirus vector, specifically derived from an attenuated strain of the Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis (VEE) virus. In this system, the structural genes of the VEE virus are replaced with the genetic sequence for H1B influenza antigens, creating a replication-defective particle. Upon administration, these VRPs infect host cells and express the target influenza antigens at high levels, but they are unable to produce new infectious virus particles. This mechanism is designed to trigger a robust and comprehensive immune response, including both neutralizing antibodies and cellular immunity, to provide protection against pandemic influenza strains associated with the H1B designation.
