Overview

Pandemic Influenza alphavaccine (H5) is an investigational RNA-based vaccine developed by AlphaVax for the prevention of H5N1 pandemic influenza. It utilizes the AlphaVax Replicon Vector (VRP) technology, which is derived from an attenuated strain of the Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis (VEE) virus. In this system, the structural genes of the alphavirus are replaced with the gene encoding the H5 influenza hemagglutinin (HA) antigen. The resulting replication-defective viral replicon particles (VRPs) infect target cells and express high levels of the H5 antigen, stimulating both humoral and cellular immune responses without producing new infectious virus particles. This platform is designed to provide rapid and robust protection against pandemic strains by mimicking a natural viral infection at the cellular level to enhance immunogenicity.
