Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The pandemic influenza vaccine (H5N1), inactivated, adjuvanted, developed by the Shanghai Institute of Biological Products (SIBP), is a monovalent vaccine designed to provide active immunization against the H5N1 subtype of the Influenza A virus. This vaccine is produced using an inactivated whole-virion preparation of the virus (typically the A/Vietnam/1194/2004 strain) and is formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity, particularly in populations with no prior exposure to the virus. It primarily targets the viral hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) proteins, inducing the production of neutralizing antibodies that prevent viral entry into host cells and inhibit viral release. SIBP, a subsidiary of Sinopharm (China National Biotec Group), developed this vaccine as a critical component of China's pandemic preparedness strategy, and it has been approved for marketing in China following clinical trials that demonstrated its safety and immunogenic profile.
