Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Foclivia** is an egg-derived, monovalent, inactivated surface-antigen vaccine for pandemic influenza A(H5N1). It contains haemagglutinin and neuraminidase antigens from the A/Vietnam/1194/2004(H5N1) strain and the oil-in-water adjuvant MF59C.1. The vaccine primes adaptive immune responses, including protective antibody production against H5N1 viral surface antigens, while MF59 enhances the magnitude of the immune response. It is authorised in the European Union for prophylaxis of influenza in an officially declared pandemic situation and is administered intramuscularly as a two-dose schedule separated by at least three weeks.
